The Computer Systems Technologies program provides an opportunity for students to obtain certificates that signify their competence in the field of computer technology. The certificate options offer students a comprehensive education that includes skills with computer hardware, networking, software (Operating Systems and Applications), security, and web authoring.
Many of the courses apply to multiple certificates and a student may earn several certificates while at OJC:
- Computer and Network Technician Certificate
- Web Development Certificate
- Advanced Web Development Certificate
Computer and information systems managers direct the work of other IT professionals, such as computer software engineers, computer programmers, computer systems analysts, and computer support specialists. They plan and coordinate activities such as installing and upgrading hardware and software, programming and systems design, the implementation of computer networks, and the development of Internet and intranet sites. They are increasingly involved with the upkeep, maintenance, and security of networks. They analyze the computer and information needs of their organizations from an operational and strategic perspective and determine immediate and long-range personnel and equipment requirements. They assign and review the work of their subordinates and stay abreast of the latest technology to ensure that the organization remains competitive.
Web Developers design, create, and modify Web sites. They analyze user needs to implement Web site content, graphics, performance, and capacity. They may integrate Web sites with other computer applications. May convert written, graphic, audio, and video components to compatible Web formats by using software designed to facilitate the creation of Web and multimedia content.
Nearly all organizations rely on computer and information technology (IT) to conduct business and operate efficiently. Computer systems analysts use IT tools to help enterprises of all sizes achieve their goals. They may design and develop new computer systems by choosing and configuring hardware and software, or they may devise ways to apply existing systems' resources to additional tasks.
Most systems analysts work with specific types of computer systems—for example, business, accounting, and financial systems or scientific and engineering systems—that vary with the kind of organization. Analysts who specialize in helping an organization select the proper system hardware and software are often called system architects or system designers. Analysts who specialize in developing and fine-tuning systems often have the more general title of systems analysts.
