OJC’s Shine n’ Show car show is for everyone who has a vehicle they would like to share with the community. All cars from the superbly polished to the ones that are a process in the works are welcome to go on display.
Debbie Phillips, OJC’s coordinator of campus and community events, stated that the OJC Shine n’ Show car show is not a judged event, rather it is an opportunity for car owners to tell a story about their car and share the pride they have in their car with the public. A variety of prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the car show about 3pm including: People’s Choice, Most Unique, Kids Entry Awards, and more.
“We’re hoping to have a wide variety of cars, including: Lowriders, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Classics, Antique Cars, Custom Motorcycles and all custom specialty vehicles,” said Phillips. “Most car shows involve an hour of frantic polishing followed by an hour of walking the lot to check out the competition. This show will be a little different because we want car owners to come, bring their prized possession, setup, relax and share their vehicle with the spectators who attend,” she said.
This year there will be a Special Kids Entry Category for ages 14 and younger. Kids are encouraged to bring in their custom bikes, pedal cars, custom go-carts, whatever they have that is unique and has been customized in some fashion by the entrant. The Kids category is free and there will be prizes awarded in several categories.
The OJC Automotive Technology class will be doing demonstrations and sharing information about the program throughout the day. Instructor Doug Gabehart and his students will also have automobiles that they have restored on display.
Check In and Registration for the Shine n’ Show car show begins at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the OJC San Juan parking lot. The show will be open to the public with free admission from 10am - 3:00 p.m. Car show registrants who preregister by September 26th will receive a t-shirt and lunch coupon. All entrants will be eligible for drawings to be held at the conclusion of the show.
