Chris Carrillo will be entering his second season as the Rattlers Head Baseball Coach. New Head Coach Carrillo, a 2000 Pueblo Central graduate, is also a product of OJC. Carrillo played on the 2001 Region IX ChampionshipTeam where he was an NJCAA All-American infielder. He also claims his athletic career at Otero Junior College to be the best time of his career. After graduating from OJC in 2002, Carrillo went on to play at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Carrillo completed his Bachelors Degree in Sociology at Adams State College in 2006. As the assistant coach for the last three years, Carrillo has worked with the hitters and infielders and has provided help with the recruiting aspects of the program. "I am very excited about this opportunity to lead the baseball program at OJC," stated Carrillo. "As a student athlete I valued my time at Otero, and I feel very excited about the year ahead," Chris truly enjoyed working with the faculty and staff as a student athlete and continues to enjoy Otero Junior College as an employee
Chris states that his philosophy behind winning baseball games is simple. He believes that good things happen to good people who work hard. If each individual takes the responsibility upon themselves to strive to be the best that they can be in every aspect of the game, more can be accomplished as a team. "There is simply no substitute for hard work. Out working our opponents is what motivates us to go out to the field every day. I believe that having this mental toughness is an extreme advantage at the end of the season when we are playing for the Region IX title".
When Chris is not at the baseball field he enjoys the great outdoors. He enjoys fly fishing, hunting, and camping as well as spending time with family and friends during his down time. He comes from a fairly large family which consists of two wonderful parents and four younger sisters. In the summer he also spends a great deal of his time watching his sister’s play softball.
"Being in a position to be able to help student athletes reach their goals is what I enjoys most" . He takes a lot of pride in watching the players that he has been in contact with succeed on or off the field.
