Sara Jordan
Assistant Women's Softball Coach
Sara Jordan from Texas, is the new OJC assistant softball coach for the 2011-2012 season. Jordan will be working with new Head Coach Ben Garcia in preparing the Rattler Softball team for the upcoming season.
Jordan holds a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in sports management from Colorado Mesa University (Mesa State College). While at Mesa, Jordan was a member of the college’s softball team as a pitcher and designated player/utility, competing with the team in two NCAA Regional Tournaments. A three-year starter for Mesa, Jordan logged 35 career home runs and pitched for 43 wins with a 3.94 ERA.
At the end of the 2010-2011 season, Jordan was ranked No. 6 in the RMAC with a .418 batting average. She led the team in homeruns for two years and was the starting pitcher for three years with 514.3 total innings.
During her collegiate career, Jordan was a 3-year 1st team All-Conference player; a 3-year All-Academic player; a 2-year All-Region player and was named to the All RMAC tournament team two years. She was also named to the Capital One 1st team All-Academic.
Prior to coming to OJC, Jordan completed an internship at Healthy Image in Victoria, Texas where she coached athletes in strength training, triathlon training and cardiovascular training. Jordan said her internship experience had a big impact on her life and career focus.
“My internship at Healthy Image changed my life for the better because I learned how to combine proper sports nutrition and strength and conditioning to enhance performance and overall wellbeing. I also learned what it means to be a team leader and be someone who leads by example. I believe that experience and knowledge will make me a better coach,” she said.
Jordan said she accepted the position at OJC because she loves to work with athletes and because she knew OJC has a highly respected softball program. “I want to provide the softball program and the coach with the coaching assistance that they need. I’m looking forward to being a part of the campus and community, growing, learning and experiencing all the opportunities that are presented to me,” said Jordan.
