Kerry Lewis

Kerry Lewis from Kim, Colorado, will begin her first season as the Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach. Lewis will be assisting Head Coach Taylor Wagner.

Coach Lewis played for Coach Wagner on his first team at OJC during the 2004-2005 season. During her year at OJC, Lewis received All-Region IX honors and was named a NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American. She was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Society and was on the President’s List for both semesters. Lewis was also recognized as a Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. She graduated from OJC in 2005 Summa Cum Laude with an Associate of Arts degree. Before transferring to OJC, Lewis completed her first year of college at Colby Community College in Colby, KS. Lewis was chosen as a Presidential Scholar and also played basketball for the CCC Lady Trojans.

Lewis grew up on a ranch south of La Junta, CO and graduated with honors from La Junta High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America. Lewis was the president of the Future Farmers of America La Junta Chapter for 3 years and LJHS Student Body Co-President. She participated in varsity volleyball, basketball and track. Lewis was a key contributor and co-captain of the first team in history of La Junta High School Lady Tiger’s Basketball to qualify for the state tournament. The team went on to receive 3rd place at the 3A State Basketball Tournament. Lewis earned All-Conference honors all 4 years, All-State honors for 2 years, and was named the 2003 Tri-Peaks Player of the Year. She played in the CHSAA All-State game, the Colorado Coaches of Girl Sports All-State game and the Southeast Colorado All-Star game.

After graduating from OJC, Lewis went on to continue her academic and basketball career at Colorado State University-Pueblo. She was the starting forward for the Lady Thunderwolves both years and was voted co-captain her senior year. Lewis was nominated for Miss CSU-Pueblo by Head Coach Drown for her academic and athletic excellence. After an interview process, Lewis was named the 2007 Miss CSU-Pueblo. In her junior year, Lewis helped the Lady Thunderwolves win the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament for the first time in school history and earn their first bid to play at the NCAA Div II National Tournament. The next year the Lady Thunderwolves were the RMAC West Conference Champions. The team finished third at the RMAC Conference Tournament.

Over her two years at CSU-Pueblo, Lewis was named 2005 Chuck Stephens Classic All-Tournament Team; 2005 and 2006 Al-Kaly Shrine Classic All-Tournament Team; RMAC-West Player of the Week; 2007 RMAC All-Academic First Team; 2006 RMAC All-Conference Second Team; 2006 and 2007 RMAC West Athletic First Team. Lewis was selected by her teammates and coaches as the ALL Award Recipient in 2006 and also 2007. This is the highest award given by the basketball program. Lewis was also the 2007 CSU-Pueblo Female Athlete of the Year.

Lewis graduated from CSU-Pueblo Magna Cum Laude in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting. Lewis was on the Dean’s List each semester and was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Society.

Lewis said she is excited to be back at OJC coaching with Coach Wagner and hopes to bring positive energy and experience as a past Lady Rattler. “I want to follow the OJC tradition and help Coach Wagner create champions on and off the basketball court. I look forward to helping the students achieve their goals in the classroom as well as on the basketball court,” said Lewis.
