Alex Snyder Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
Alex Snyder returns to OJC for his third year as an assitant coach, this year for the women’s basketball program. He will also be working part-time at the Fitness Center.
Originally from Colorado Springs, Snyder played his high school basketball for Butch Thorpe at Harrison High School. In his 3 years there, the team compiled a record of 64-11 and played for a state championship his senior year. Snyder earned all-leauge and all-city honors as well as an honorable mention all-state his senior year. After graduating from Harrison in 2005, Snyder continued his career at Otero where he played two seasons for head coach Houston Reed. As a tough hard-nosed player he was unfortunately plagued by injuries in his two year stint at Otero. Regardless of his injuries Snyder left Otero as a top 50 all-time scorer. Snyder graduated in 2008 from OJC and earned a scholarship to continue playing at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs for Russ Caton. During his senior year Snyder averaged 10 points per game, 5 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game for the Lions earning him All-RMAC honors. Snyder graduated from UCCS in 2010 with a bachelors in Sociology.
When asked about joining the coaching staff at Otero Snyder had this to say, “I am excited to get back to my roots and begin my coaching career. Otero helped me grow as a player, a student, and a man. I hope that I can help the young student-athletes here have the same positive and enjoyable experience that I had as a student-athlete.”
Coach Wagner is excited about the addition of Snyder, “We are looking forward to Alex bringing a lot to our strength and conditioning program and player development. He will bring positive energy, loyalty, and work ethic to our program and institution.”
Coach Snyder is the son of Danny and Kim Snyder. He has four siblings, Donica, Aymesha, Felipe and Carlos.
