2013 Rattler Run Results:

LA JUNTA — The third annual Rattler Run at Otero Junior College was held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 with 120 participants who took part in four different events: a 10-mile race, 5K run, two-mile walk and one-mile kids' race. Awards were given in the 10-mile, 5K and kids' race categories.

“We were pleased with the turn out for this year’s Rattler Run,” said Teri Erickson, OJC resource development director and event organizer. “Not only did we draw participants from the immediate area, but we were also able to draw many runners in from out of the area. About half of the 10-mile race participants and a third of the 5k participants came from outside of the three-county area.”

The race was hosted by the OJC Foundation as a fundraising event for scholarships to support the President’s Leadership Program. The mission of the program is to develop and train emerging leaders at Otero Junior College through a one- or two-year academic leadership program that is focused on academics, service and experiential learning.

“I would like to thank the participants, the community, and all of the volunteers who helped to make this event a success,” said Erickson. “The President’s Leadership Program is a competitive scholarship program with just over 20 participants for this academic year.”

OJC AG Gala Ball

OJC Foundation New Year's Eve AG Gala

The Otero Junior College Foundation is planning its annual New Year’s Eve AG Gala. Last year’s event raised over $10,000 to support scholarships for students in OJC’s agriculture sciences program.

This year’s event will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Otero Junior College Student Center. It will include a full beef brisket dinner, country music, dancing, door prizes and an auction full of unique items.

Double Your Donation!

Our goal with this third annual event is to surpass last year’s success. To assist with that, we have received two matching challenge grants – one from the Helen K. and Arthur E. Johnson Foundation and the other from Kaiser Permanente – which will enable us to match dollar for dollar every donation made to this event to help support scholarships.

To donate to the event or to agriculture scholarships in general, please click on the donate button below. All donations are tax-deductible and will be matched with outside dollars.
