Meet your 2016 - 2017 Lady Rattler Softball Team
The Lady Rattlers are back in action, ready to earn the Region IX Championship title. With two former Lady Rattlers at the helm of the coaching staff, this 2016-2017 team will be bringing experience, strategy, and loads of talent to the field this spring.
Infielder Amber Brandmeyer signed a NJCAA National Letter of Intent to play softball at Otero Junior College, and she will be a three-time Varsity Letter at Paraclete High School in Lancaster, California. As a junior, Amber was a 2nd Team All-Conference while her high school team won 2016 State Championship. Amber was also a part of the back-to-back CIF Championship team in 2016 and 2015. Amber also excels academically and earned the Principals Award for outstanding GPA (4.0) Head softball coach Noél Wees remarked on her athletic ability: “Amber’s consistent gap hitting and receiving skills at first base will take our program to the next level.” Amber’s travel team is Firecracker’s –Rockey, coached by Justin Rockey.
Right-handed pitcher Brandy Deherrera has signed a National Letter of Intent. Brandy is a three-time Varsity Letter in softball at Wheat Ridge High School in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Her junior year, the Wheat Ridge Farmers’ softball team were the 2015 League Champions while finishing 2nd place in the 4A State tournament. Her senior year, the Wheat Ridge Farmers’ softball team were Regional Champions while finish 6th place in the 4A State tournament. Head softball coach Noél Wees commented, “We are extremely excited for Brandy’s development on the mound as she brings experience from both her high school and travel ball teams’ who are known for competing at a high level. Brandy’s future as Rattler looks bright.” Brandy plays travel softball for the Colorado Cardinals 18A, and her statistics from last season included a .443 batting average, 34 RBI’s, a 3.6 ERA, and a total of 60 strikeouts.
Outfielder Delaney Fletcher signed a NJCAA National Letter of Intent to play softball at Otero. Delaney played varsity softball at Arvada West High School, in Arvada, Colorado. In Delaney’s 2016 senior season, she earned All-Conference 2nd Team honors, Player of the Game four times, and lead as Co-Captain of the Awest Wildcats. Delaney was also ranked 11th nationally for the centerfield position while playing on the Colorado Cardinals 99 travel team. In 2015, Delaney was All-Conference Honorable Mention. Delaney maintains a 3.6 GPA and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society since 2015. Coach Wees noted, “Delaney’s defensive skills in centerfield are some of the best I’ve seen this past fall in Colorado. She is going to add tremendous depth to our outfield.” Delaney plays travel softball for Darrin Mauser’s Colorado Cardinals 99.
Catcher Jenica Kevil has signed a NJCAA National Letter of Intent for the Otero softball team. Jenica will be a three-time Varsity Letter at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas. In her sophomore year, Jenica earned 1st Team All District while finishing in the Top 10 for the Dallas/Ft. Worth batting average. She was also All-Area Honorable Mention. Academically, she also obtained All-Academic recognition in 2015 & 2016. In her junior year, Jenica earned 2016 1st Team All-District, 2016 Outstanding Hitter Team Award, and 2016 Fall Ball Team Leading Batting Average (at .600). Coach Wees revealed, “Jenica is our first Texas commit, and the level of coaching she has received will undoubtedly help in leading our pitching staff. We expect her to be a leader behind the plate and off the field.” Jenica is also involved in her high school’s National Honor Society and is the treasurer of the Key Club Organization. She plays summer softball for the American Freedom 18U Gold team out of Ft. Worth for Coach Jeff McClasky.
Outfielder Madison Kuhbacher has signed a NJCAA National Letter of Intent to play softball at Otero. Madison will be a three-time Varsity Letter for Camel Fastpitch at Campbell County High School in Gillette, Wyoming. Her junior year batting average was .569, with an on base percentage of .622, and 37 runs scored. Coach Wees remarked how, “Madison’s speed, range, and arm strength will make a huge impact in the outfield.” Madison plays club softball for the Gillette Fastpitch Blue Jays coached by Danny Gojkovich.
Emily Marrin has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Otero Junior College. Coach Wees explained, “Emily’s pitching will add depth to our staff. Her desire to lead on the mound and achieve athletically will be enjoyable to coach, and we are looking forward to seeing her develop.” Emily Marrin played travel softball for Toxic 18U Fastpitch out of southern California.
Left-handed pitcher Selena Medina has signed a NJCAA National Letter of Intent to play softball at Otero. Selena finished her senior season at Rocky Ford High School as a 3A State Champion and as 3A Player of the Year. Selena led the state at 3A with the most wins with 21-1 record and led the state statistically in strikeouts with 134. She not only dominated from the circle, but offensively had a .442 batting average. Coach Wees stated that “We are so excited to have Selena join our Lady Rattler softball family, and I am looking forward to seeing her lead on the mound. Her championship mentality is something we want to continue to foster here and use to dominate Region IX play.”
Catcher and middle infielder Whitney Nelson has signed a NJCAA National Letter of Intent to play softball at Otero. Whitney finished her senior season as a Rocky Ford High School 3A State Champion while earning 2nd Team All-State. Statistically, she finished 5th in the state for runs scored (45), and she had a career on base percentage of .565. Whitney is a four-time Varsity Letter in softball and earned First Team All-Conference in three of those seasons (in 2013, 2014, and 2016) Coach Wees stated that “We are excited for Whitney’s future and expect her to be a leader here at Otero. She is a stick of dynamite in a small package, and competes with a larger-than-life attitude.” Whitney also plays basketball for Swink High School and earned Academic All-State accolades last season.
Outfielder Taylor Tremelling has signed a National Letter of Intent for Otero’s softball program. Taylor is a four-time Varsity Letter and starter in softball at Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, Colorado. Her junior year of high school, Taylor received All Conference Honorable Mention. Taylor finished her senior year of high school softball with a .465 batting average, a .494 on base percentage, and had 18 stolen bases. Coach Wees mentioned how, “Taylor tracks down fly balls well, and she has a quick first step. Once she gets on base, her speed will be a huge threat in Region IX.” Taylor plays summer softball for the Colorado Classics coached by Ceri Anderson.
Left-handed pitcher Brandy Trengove has signed a NJCAA National Letter of Intent. Brandy is a four-time Varsity Letter in softball at Wheat Ridge High School in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Brandy’s 2016 senior season, she had a .547 batting average, an .895 slugging percentage, a .562 on base percentage, and a 3.45 ERA for pitching, along with 72 strike outs. She earned 1st team All-Conference, Denver Post 1st Team All-State, and CHSAA 2nd team All-State while the Lady Farmers made the 4A State Playoffs. In Brandy’s 2015 junior year, her team earned 4A State Runner up with 2nd Team All-Conference accolades. As a freshman, Brandy was a part of the Wheat Ridge softball program’s 2013 4A State Championship team. She is also a three-year Varsity Letter in tennis and is currently playing basketball. Coach Wees stated, “Brandy has great size and strength. Not only is she athletic, but has a solid work ethic that will push her to be a future top player in Region IX on the mound and at the plate.” Brandy plays travel softball for Darrin Mauser’s Colorado Cardinals 99.
Infielder Marcela Walker signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Otero, and she will be a four-time Varsity Letter and starter at Victor Valley High School in Victorville, California. In 2015, Marcela earned 2nd Team All-League, and in 2016, she earned 1st Team All-League and 1st Team in the Desert Sky League. Coach Wees stated that “Cela’s power hitting is outstanding and her glove work at the corner’s is quick and clean. We are expecting her to excel and make an immediate impact at the plate and in the infield.” Cela’s travel team is Firecracker’s –Rockey, coached by Justin Rockey.
