  Decisions

The boy starting his normal day late.
The girl who took a different route.

The boy stopping at the coffee shop.
The girl ordering the same exact thing.

Double espresso please.
Double espresso please.

“To go or stay?” the worker asks. “Go please.”
“To go or stay?” the worker asks. “I’ll stay.”

But what if he’d stayed?
Or what if she’d gone?

Their paths would’ve traced,
For another five blocks.

Leading to the normal conversation of “Hi, I’m Jim.”
“Nice to meet you I’m Pam.”

Talking and laughing.
Laughing and talking.

“Where are you headed?”
“I work at 4th and Hutches in the Luther Building.”

“No way! Me too.”
“Wow, that’s great! Small world, big building.”

Then he’d see the light, asks for a nice, special night.
Walk through the park. Moon, stars, glowing so bright.

He didn’t have this chance. He was in such a hurry.
She just wanted to calmly enjoy her hot cup of coffee.

What could’ve happened? What would’ve been?
They’ll never know.

It’s today’s decisions that shape what happens tomorrow.
It’s today’s decisions we make. Stay or go?
