In response to the attack on our country, President Bush had a choice to make–risk the lives of our soldiers or focus on peaceful negotiations. I believe he was right to take immediate action and not negotiate with terrorists. Both Senate and Congress backed the president and the American people. After bombing Afghanistan’s terrorist sites, we continued to search for Osama Bin Laden. It has been six years now since we entered the war, and our citizens are understandably frustrated. It has become a common wish to end the war because we’ve accomplished as much as we can–I agree with this. However, many political voices and activists have stated that we should not have gone to war in the first place. This I don’t agree with. The attitudes of our citizens have changed; they seem to have forgotten why we went overseas. The American people agreed on the decision to retaliate after the September 11th tragedy and there should be no argument on that matter. Unfortunately, there is. A large majority of citizens have come to their own conclusion on the situation–opinions derived from their own curiosity that defies what we’ve fought so hard to defend. This curiosity has led to harmful conspiracy theories.
These theories are misleading and sometimes conspirators try so hard to find answers they rely on fictional logic that serves to please their desires. For example, the movie “Loose Change,” based on a 9/11 conspiracy, presents theory as fact through a controlled demolition–the pentagon was hit by a cruise missile, not a plane, and on the idea that United Flight 93, which crashed in an open field in Pennsylvania after the occupants overran the terrorists, was brought down by our own United States Air Force…The United States Air Force! I have several problems with these issues and they all begin by asking, why? Why would our government demolish trade centers that help control the economy? Why would the Pentagon lie about being attacked? Why would our own Air Force take down a commercial airplane? And most of all, how can people look to blame this on our government and our president. He is our Commander–in–Chief. He deals with every single ordeal our nation has to undergo. There is no logical reason behind our president and government trying to create a 9/11. Not even the argument that it was to protect our country and go overseas for more oil. If this were true we wouldn’t see gas prices continue to rise.
