Dusty, Scruffy Wings
To feed upon Colorado wildflower’s nectar
The gray miller moth has flying habits crepuscular.
From Kansas and Nebraska the migration has begun.
Pilgrimage is nocturnal; they fly when the day is done.
Pausing frequently; one-inch lepidopterist insects
Come inside, uninvited, to entertain the house cats.
They hide behind our coats and inside cereal boxes.
Seeking a hiding place; they explode from dark crevasses!
Four membranous wings continuously exfoliate.
The gray dusty miller, thus named, flies as nature does dictate.
With sun and substance and sketch of God’s eye-analysis
“They’ll be gone within a month” says the entomologist!
