My Bike
At 5 they got me a bike
fell off and cracked my head
got back on the horse and rode again
By 10 I had used it to travel my world
east to the plains
north to the next town
west to the mountains
out to the unknown
By 15 I had left it behind
cars
girls
work
girls
school
girls
days of drudgery
nights of ecstasy
lifelong love
At 60 my bike waits in the shed unused, neglected
But not forgotten
It had shown me the path and opened the doors
I could pump up the tires and dust it off
Would I still remember how to ride?
