The Grant Resource Office is operated by Otero Junior College and is designed to assist area non-profit organizations in seeking grant funding. The Grant Resource Office, located inside the Southeastern Colorado Resource Enterprise (SCORE) Center, was funded through the HUD Hispanic Serving Institutions Assisting Communities grant received by OJC in 2004.
According to OJC Vice President of Administrative Services Gary Ashida, the Grant Resource Office was developed in part due to an alarming trend: non-profit organizations in this area of the state have routinely received far less in private foundation grants than have other regions of the state. Developing a resource center that enables non-profit representatives to seek assistance in finding available grant money and developing proposals will help turn this trend around.
Office Director Teri Erickson works with representatives of non-profit organizations in Otero, Bent and Crowley counties to seek available grant funding and put together successful proposals.
Since opening, the Grant Resource Office has established relationships with over 75 non-profit organizations in Otero, Bent and Crowley counties, which are the target areas for the program. Erickson’s goal is to work with organizations of all sizes in the three counties. "I encourage non-profit and faith-based organizations who rely on grant money – or who want to learn more about applying for grants – to contact me," Erickson said.
All services offered by the Grant Resource Office are provided to area non-profits free of charge during the initial three-year HUD grant period.
