Funder Visits to Southeast Colorado
- On February 1, three representatives from the Colorado Council on the Arts will be at OJC to provide a workshop session on their specific grant-making opportunities. The visit is being sponsored in part by the Southeast Rural Philanthropy Days Steering Committee, in conjunction with the Otero Junior College Grant Resource Office. CCA’s next grant deadline is March 15 for projects that will begin starting July 1, 2007. There are four grant categories in which funding will be distributed:
- Increasing participation in the arts.
- Arts learning/youth.
- Traditional arts and cultural heritage/tourism.
- Services to artists and arts groups.
CCA representatives Maryo Ewell of Gunnison, Sheila Sears of Denver and Kathleen Figgen of Alamosa will discuss each of these areas and be available to answer questions specific to the CCA application process.
Eligible organizations include non-profits with 501(c)3 status as well as local governmental entities such as libraries, schools districts and municipalities). In addition, individual artists who are collaborating with local organizations are invited to apply. CCA is especially interested in discussing opportunities for organizations in the economic development and tourism industries, but encourages all non-profits that might have viable project ideas to attend the session.
The session will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the OJC Student Center. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP no later than Jan. 15 to Teri Erickson in the Grant Resource Office, (719) 384-6962.
- On February 28, the Colorado Health Foundation will be on the OJC campus for an informational workshop regarding their granting programs. The session is planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Center Banquet Room. Anyone wanting to attend this event is also asked to RSVP. This can be done two ways:
- By going to the Colorado Health Foundation’s Web site at www.coloradohealth.org and clicking on the Applicant Information Session link and choosing the option for the La Junta session.
- Calling the Community Resource Center at 1-800-516-6284.
The CHF session is open to all non-profit organizations in the region whose missions are health-related.
- September 2007, the Southeast Rural Philanthropy Days Steering Committee is planning a series of two-day grant-writing workshops for September 2007. These intensive workshops will enable non-profit representatives to bring an idea for funding and put together a grant proposal while learning the ins and outs of proposal writing. Sessions will be held in La Junta, Lamar and Trinidad. More information will be coming!
