OJC’s Summer Bridge programs provide a foundation for student success
Biology Prep is just one of the Summer Bridge Programs offered this summer. Registration is open for the remaining Summer Bridge programs that are designed to help students master the skills needed for college readiness. To register for the programs, go to http://www.ojc.edu/summerBridge.aspx.
Summer Bridge programs at Otero Junior College offer personal instruction that will help students master the skills necessary for college readiness. A variety of programs will be offered to fit the needs of each particular student.
Students looking to improve their aptitude in courses such as BIO 111, 201, 202 and 204 can enroll in BIO 175 either for one credit hour or for non-credit. Two sessions will be offered during the summer.
The first will run July 21-25 with lecture Monday through Friday from 1 - 4 p.m. and will be taught by Lisa Gallegos. The second will run August 4 - 8 from 2 – 5 p.m. and will be taught by Warren McClure. Cost for the one credit is $139.98. Students taking the course for non-credit pay $30. This program is funded by STEM. The STEM program at Otero Junior College is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) program.
In the area of math, a “study on your own” program through the MyFoundationsLab® online program will help to strengthen personal areas of need identified during Accuplacer diagnostic testing. Cost for the non-credit program is $18.30.
Students looking to improve their Accuplacer scores in reading and sentence skills have two options left this summer. A “study on your own” option is available using the MyFoundationsLab® program. Cost for the non-credit program is $18.30.
Students can also come to campus this summer for personalized tutoring. Pam Osborne, OJC’s language arts coach, will be available on campus during the summer every Wednesday from June 18 through July 23 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Students can attend sessions for help and encouragement completing the MyFoundationsLab® program to take or retake the Accuplacer placement exam. To make an appointment for personal tutoring, contact Pam Osborne at 719-384-6851 or email Pamela.Osborne@ojc.edu . The cost for the non-credit program is $18.30.
After completing the math or reading/sentence skills programs, students can retake the Accuplacer. If the score exceeds the minimum placement score, a student will be able to enroll in 100-level courses during fall semester rather than developmental education courses.
Registration for all Summer Bridge programs can be accessed on the OJC website at: http://www.ojc.edu/summerBridge.aspx . For more information on the Summer Bridge programs contact OJC Student Services at 719-384-6831.
