What is the Colorado Opportunity Fund?
The College Opportunity Trust Fund (COF), created by the Colorado Legislature, provides a stipend to eligible undergraduate students. The stipend pays a portion of your total in-state tuition when you attend a Colorado public institution or a participating private institution. Eligible undergraduate students must apply, be admitted and enroll at a participating institution. Both new and continuing students are eligible for the stipend.
Qualifying students may use the stipend for eligible undergraduate classes. The stipend is paid on a per credit hour basis to the institution at which the student is enrolled. The credit-hour amount will be set annually by the General Assembly.
Who is eligible?
Undergraduate students classified as in-state students for tuition purposes and enrolled at state colleges and universities.
Additionally, undergraduate students enrolled at participating private colleges or universities may be eligible if the college or university is approved for the program by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education and the student:
- Is classified as an in-state student for tuition purposes;
- Is a graduate of a Colorado high school or has successfully completed a non-public home-based educational program in Colorado;
- Demonstrates financial need through the student's eligibility for the federal Pell Grant, or its successor program; and
- Meets any other eligibility requirements established by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE).
Note: "Eligible Undergraduate Student" does not include a student enrolled in an off-campus, extended campus, or continuing education class not supported by state general fund moneys, except as approved by CCHE.

Payment of Tuition and Fees
A student who owes a balance from a previous term will not be allowed to register for subsequent terms until the balance is paid in full. Students may pay all or part of their tuition and fees during early registration or may settle their account on the first day of classes. The total balance of all tuition, fees, room, board, and other current charges is due no later than 5:00 p.m. on the 12th class day of the term to which the charges apply.
Balance due is computed by subtracting all confirmed student financial aid grants and scholarships from current charges. The remainder is what must be paid by the twelfth day of the term. If a third party sponsor arrangement (such as an employer or government agency) is to pay all or a portion of the charges, students will need to provide the college cashier with written evidence of this agreement in order to have the amount deducted from the balance due. Parents or family are not considered third party sponsors.
Satisfying financial obligations is the final step in the registration process. Students may be administratively dropped from all classes for non-payment of their account.
[ Back To Top ]
Refund/Repayment Policy
The first 12 class days of each semester are considered the drop/add period, when students may adjust their class schedules without penalty. If a student officially drops classes by completing the required forms in the Student Services Center before 5:00 p.m. of the 12th class day, full refund of tuition and fees shall be made for the dropped classes except for the non-refundable registration processing fee. The unused portion of room and board charges will also be refunded. However, if a student withdraws after the 12th day, the student will be charged full tuition and fees and the pro rata amount for room and meals through the day of withdrawal.
[ Back To Top ]
Fianancial Aid Repayment
If a student does not attend even one class (a “no show”), all financial aid awards to that student will be canceled and repaid to the funding source. If a student withdraws, drops out, or is expelled within the first 12 class days, that student is treated, for refund/repayment purposes, the same as a “no show.” No Title IV financial aid money is disbursed, the award is canceled, and funds are returned to the funding source. Financial aid awards are not disbursed to student accounts until after the 12th day of class. After the 12th day, the student will receive 100 percent of the financial aid due, to be applied first against any balance due to the college, with any additional amount being disbursed to student to meet past, current, and future living expenses. Financial aid eligibility will be recalculated and amount of refund or repayment will be determined by the financial aid office for students who withdraw, drop out, or take a leave of absence after the 12th day of class and prior to completing 60 percent of the term. For more information, contact the financial aid office. Disbursement checks will be made to the student within a reasonable time after the 12th day.

Textbooks and Supplies
The Otero Junior College Bookstore is housed in the Student Center and operated for the students, staff, and faculty, as well as the communities of the Arkansas Valley. The Bookstore staff is trained in providing fast and friendly customer service, and is concerned with maintaining a well-stocked, well-rounded bookstore. Merchandise from textbooks to supplemental materials, such as solutions manuals and study guides, to required supplies for Anatomy, Art, Biology, Drafting, Geology, and Nursing students are stocked for the convenience of the customer. The clothing department has been especially designed for the student on the go and their families. Many gift items are available that make a special occasion much more meaningful. A visit to the Bookstore will ensure a student or family member the opportunity for “one stop shopping.” There are many more features of the Bookstore for today’s student to take advantage of including postage stamps, snacks and cold/flu aides. Books or merchandise not stocked, can be special ordered.
Customers are invited to stop by anytime and see the instructional and personal merchandise that can only be found at the OJC Bookstore. Specially “logoed” items are also available.
Store hours usually run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., weekdays. Bookstore hours are extended during rush days of each semester.
