The Lady Rattlers 2007 volleyball pre-season got under way in early August. The ladies underwent a tough three weeks of practice to prepare for their first tournament. The Lady Rattlers have a solid group of five returning players from last year’s team. “Having such a great group of sophomores coming back will play a big role in the success of the season,” stated Head Coach Dana Cordova. “Every one of these ladies had some playing time last year and many started at some point during the 06-07 season.” A solid group of freshman and transfers are joining the team and also have an exciting role to play. “These young ladies will be able to mesh well with our sophomores and we have a solid group to build from,” stated Coach Cordova. “I really feel that this team has the talent, the drive, and the attitude, to make this an exciting year.”
The Lady Rattler’s goal (besides being an outstanding volleyball team) is being one of the top academic teams in the nation as well. The ladies want to make sure that they are again ranked in the nation’s top twenty-five academically, as they were last year, but would really like to finish in the top ten this year. The ladies will continue to be involved in the community and will represent the college in a positive manner.
“This year’s team is committed to bringing excellence to the classroom, to the volleyball court and to every day commitments. These Lady Rattlers look to challenge anything that comes their way with hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude. With the sophomore talent, leadership, and experience along with a promising incoming class, this year’s team will be a team to watch. We should provide exciting volleyball and be in the hunt for the Region IX Title,” stated Cordova.
