The 2011 Lady Rattler Volleyball Team finished the season with 18 wins and 19 losses.
The Lady Rattlers will only lose three sophomores and will return 14 freshmen; 10 of which saw a good amount of playing time.
“This was probably my most talented team since I have been coaching at OJC, said fourth-year head coach Melissa Anderson. “They were just young, and on any given night we could have five or six freshman on the court doing a great job for us,” Anderson.
The three sophomores Brittney Long, Sierra Graham, and Abigail Ager, will all be missed as they helped lead the freshmen to a good season that just came up a little short.
The freshmen will begin their off season workout in January, which includes attending three spring tournaments. With the 2011 season under their belts the girls have very high hopes for the 2012 season.
Lady Rattler Volleyball Season Outlook
The Otero Junior College Volleyball team is welcoming back three returning sophomores to help lead a young freshman class through their 2011 campaign. Returning for her fourth year is Head Coach Melissa Anderson, assisted by former OJC player Rebecca Wright.
After preseason camp wrapped up, Coach Anderson said she thought the girls worked hard each day and prepared themselves very well for the upcoming season.
“With only three returners, I’m expecting the freshman to step up to the challenge and have a huge impact on the court. Overall I think we have a well balanced team of personality. The girls are very coachable and respond well to the coaching staff,” said Anderson. “The sophomores have taken the freshman under their wing and are stepping up to be leaders.”
Anderson said she is excited to get into the season and feels like this group of girls has the potential to be very good. “Although we don’t have a lot of size, we have girls who are outstanding at defense and we are building our team around them,” she said.
In conjunction with the OJC Rattler Run and Reunion, the OJC Volleyball team hosted the OJC Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 9 and 10, 2011. Admission was free to the OJC Volleyball Tournament.
