OJC Soccer!

Season Outlook & New Recruits

Women’s soccer is a new program for OJC that is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2012. The program will be one of the first junior college programs to be offered in Colorado. The team will play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region IX, against teams from Wyoming and Nebraska.

Donny Ribaudo, Sacramento, Calif., has been named the new Otero Junior College women’s soccer coach. An assistant coach at California State University, Chico, Ribaudo comes to OJC with a lengthy resume of accomplishment as both a player and coach, and has a definite plan in mind to fill the inaugural roster with players who want to be part of creating a competitive women’s soccer program.

Ribaudo said that he and Assistant Coach McMullan will focus their recruiting efforts over the next couple of months on the Colorado High School soccer season. In addition, they will be attending the Las Vegas Players Showcase this spring and several other youth soccer events in Colorado this summer.

A highlight of the spring recruiting season will be a Women’s Soccer ID Camp at Otero Junior College on April 21, held at the La Junta Tiger Stadium. The Women’s ID Camp is open to all soccer participants, grades 9-12 and up, and is free of charge. A maximum of 40 players will be accepted for camp. The camp will provide college level training to improve each player through specific skill instruction, small side games and 11 vs. 11 games. This camp is a great way for players to be identified by the Otero soccer coaches.

“These are new and exciting times for Otero’s women’s soccer program. I’m excited with the direction we are going and especially with identifying a quality group of student athletes for the fall of 2012,” said Ribaudo.
