Lady Rattlers Back on the Court After Long Break

Currently the Lady Rattlers are 9-3 at the midseason point. Throughout the first half of the season, the Lady Rattler’s created an identity as a tough defensive team that plays hard and attacks the basket offensively. The team started the season with two wins at the Holiday Inn Classic held at the McDivitt Gymnasium in late November. The following week the team traveled to Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas. Frank Phillips was able to pull away from the Rattlers, as turnovers added up quickly and were capitalized on by a very athletic Frank Phillips team.

According to Head Coach Taylor Wagner, the loss clearly defined the weaknesses that needed improvement and the Lady Rattler’s bounced back with a six-game win streak. The streak started with two tough wins at the Air Force Prep Tournament in Colorado Springs, against Barton County Community College. The team then played the next four games at home, beating Eastern Wyoming College, Colorado Christian University JV (twice), and finally, redeeming the earlier loss in Borger, Texas with a 77-69 win over Frank Phillips College.

At the midseason point, sophomores Kari Ameling and Angie Andenucio are the leading scorers averaging 12.4 ppg and 9.5 ppg respectively. Ameling is also the leading rebounder for the squad averaging 6.1 followed by freshman Tracy Fosterling with 4.2 per game. Sophomores Ashley Jelly and Andenucio are the free throw percentage leaders with 87.5 percent and 80.8 percent respectively.

"We are excited to get back and play some games after the long break. We have had great practices and the team's expectations are high for this semester. It will be fun to watch the team’s hard work pay off," Head Coach Taylor Wagner said.
