Otero Junior College Awarded Scholarship Funding for Non-Traditional Students

Otero Junior College is pleased to announce that it has received a $21,000 grant from the Daniels Fund to provide five Boundless Opportunity Scholarships to non-traditional students for the next four semesters.

Boundless Opportunity Scholarships help highly-motivated students achieve their goals by providing the means for a better education as well as a better life for themselves and their families.

“Otero Junior College is very honored to accept this grant that will lessen the financial impact many non-traditional students bear due to the limited amount of scholarship support available to students age 23 and older,” said Jim Rizzuto, president of Otero Junior College. “The scholarship support included in this grant will reduce the need for student loans for those students and will provide for a defined path of success for degree completion,” he explained.

The Boundless Opportunity Scholarships will focus specifically on the non-traditional student category of adult learners; those 23 years of age or older and who are need-based.

“Boundless Opportunity Scholarships benefit non-traditional students who desire to create a better life by investing in their education,” explained Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. “As our founder, Bill Daniels, said, ‘America remains the greatest nation on Earth, where boundless opportunities still exist for each and every one of us’.”

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be at least 23 years of age; be need-based, and plan to enroll full-time in a defined program of study at OJC.  Awardees will receive $1,000 per semester, renewable each semester by maintaining satisfactory academic progress. A total of five scholarship will be awarded for Fall 2016.

Applications for the Boundless Opportunity Scholarships, and more information about the selection process and expectation of recipients, can be found on the Otero Junior College website at: www.ojc.edu and search for Scholarships.

The application deadline for the Boundless Opportunity Scholarship is June 30, 2016. For more information contact Angela Moore, OJC Financial Aid Director at 719-384-6834.

The Daniels Fund is a private charitable foundation that continues the legacy of generosity established by its founder, Bill Daniels, through grant and scholarship programs, and other initiatives in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
