OJC offers summer professional development for teachers
 
Darlene Blackford will offer two professional development courses at Otero Junior College during the month of July for teachers wishing to build their skills and put a spark in their lessons in the coming year.

The first course, Teaching Creatively, will take place on Wed. July 6 and Thurs. July 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Humanities Center, room 113. If your lesson plans and teaching methods need a breath of fresh air, this is the class for you!  This course focuses on how to enhance the innate creativity in you so that you can encourage and promote more creativity in your students.  Come with an open mind, an inquiring spirit, and a desire to stretch yourself, both as a teacher and a learner.

The second course, Energizers and Brain-Breaks, will run July 20-21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Humanities Center, room 113. Research on “brain-based learning” supports interactive, hands-on activities to engage students and invigorate classrooms.  This workshop teaches strategies for implementing short, active “brain breaks” during the class period to refresh and refocus the learner.  The activities and ideas and are appropriate for teachers from primary through high school. 

Both classes are offered for 1 semester credit. Enrollment in the courses is completed through OJC Student Services, in McBride Hall off of San Juan Ave.  For more information, call Student Services at 719.384.6831.
