Chris Smith to lead Rattler Men’s Soccer

Otero Junior College has named Chris Smith head coach as head coach of Rattler Men’s Soccer.  Smith, assistant coach of the program since 2012, has contributed to the success of the team, which earned two region IX championship titles in 2013 and 2015.

Smith played soccer for Colorado State University-Pueblo as a goalie from 2007 through 2010. During this time he was voted RMAC defensive player of the week two times and named most valuable player once.  While at CSU-P, Smith earned a bachelor’ degree in business management with emphasis in marketing and has since completed a master’s degree in sports management.

“I want to thank President Rizzuto and Coach Addington for giving me this opportunity. I am so blessed. I am excited to get started and to continue the success this program has had,” said Smith. “I congratulate Mike [Bielski] on his new position.  I know he’s up for the challenge.  I thank him for mentoring me and getting me prepared to take on this new challenge.”

The Rattler Men’s Soccer team plays its home opener on Sunday, August 28 at 5 p.m. versus Garden City Community College at Tiger Field. All home soccer events are open to the community free of charge.
