Dine and Dance the New Year in at the 5th Annual New Year’s Eve Ag Gala

Do you want to take part in helping the next generation feed the nation? Through Otero Junior College’s New Year’s Eve Ag Gala you can do just that, as well as enjoy a fun evening with friends and neighbors.  The Ag Gala is the scholarship fundraiser for OJC’s Agricultural Science Program.  The event will be held in the OJC Student Center Ballroom from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, December 31.

The evening will be filled with great music, dancing, food and drinks. This year, the popular Wiskey Creek Band from Trinidad will provide the live country western music.  There will be a beef brisket dinner and gourmet chocolates for dessert. A cash bar will be available along with $10 beer boots with free refills. There will be door prize drawings and live and silent auctions, with items including wine baskets, handmade items, Avalanche tickets and more.

There are three levels of sponsorships available, each including a table for eight guests and a bottle of champagne. The Platinum sponsorship ($1,000 and up) also includes a bottle of red wine, door prize tickets, and eight beer boots. Each Platinum sponsor will have a 2017 Ag Premier Scholar named to represent their sponsorship.  The Gold Sponsors ($500 to $999) will also receive door prize tickets. Silver sponsors are $350-$499.  Couple tickets are available for $60 and a single ticket for $35.

“The OJC Foundation and the Agriculture Program are extremely appreciative of the continued support received from the agriculture community and local businesses for the New Year’s Eve Ag Gala. The Ag Gala planning committee is looking forward to a fun evening,” said co-chair and ag faculty Brooke Matthew.

Last year, the Gala raised just over $11,000.00 and was able to sponsor three scholars for 2016/2017. Scholarship recipients were Chelsea Lewis (Las Animas High School), Dalton Davis (Rocky Ford High School), and Justin Hinkle (Fowler High School).

The scholars greatly appreciate the help they are receiving. Dalton Davis stated, “Receiving this scholarship allowed me to follow my passion to study Agriculture Business and gave me the opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a successful farmer.”
