OJC Softball 2017 season outlook

Otero Junior College Lady Rattler softball team opens up their season this Friday, February 3, at 2 and 4 p.m. against Colby Community College at Tippy Martinez softball field. Lady Rattler Softball returns 11 sophomores from last season, including their entire infield, catcher, and centerfielder. The returning starters include: catcher Taylor Hansel (Englewood, CO), third basemen, who split time, Morgan Hansel (Englewood, CO) and Julianna Alvarado (Denver, CO),shortstop Amanda Almond (Lancaster, CA), second baseman  Sarah Kay (Evergreen, CO), first baseman Courtney Baeckel (Loveland, CO), and center fielder Miranda Davis (Aurora, CO).

All Region IX softball teams are starting fresh with new pitching staff; not one sophomore that will return to the mound for the region. The Lady Rattler pitching staff consists of the following players: Shelby Copley (Lakewood, CO), Emily Marcus (Broomfield, CO), Demi Ownbey (Springfield, CO), and Annie Davis (La Junta, CO).  Position players Almond and Baeckel may be seeing time on the mound as well.

For the outfield positions, the Lady Rattler softball team has Stephanie Alfaro (Aurora, CO), Samantha Garcia (Commerce City, CO), and pitcher Marcus.  Brooklyn Waddles (La Junta, CO) will also help out in the outfield once completing her season with the Women’s Basketball team.

The Otero Softball team is focused on winning and hosting Region IX Championship play, moving into post season, and becoming a Top 16 team, all while maintaining an overall team GPA of 3.2.

Please come out and support our 2017 Lady Rattler softball team as they kick off their first home game Friday, February 3, at 2 and 4 p.m. against Colby Community College at Tippy Martinez softball field!
