Dwight Sanders enters his first year as the Head Coach for the Otero Junior College Softball team. Sanders played varsity baseball at Fountain Fort Carson High School from 2008 to 2011 and earned All-Conference Utility Player Awards for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

After high school, Sanders accepted a scholarship to play baseball at Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. where he earned “Freshman of the Year” accolades. He played at Claflin from 2012 to 2013. Sanders then transferred and finished his collegiate career closer to home at Colorado State University at Pueblo (CSU- Pueblo). He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

After graduating, Sanders played for the Pueblo Collegians coached by Tony Pechek. He finished his baseball career in September 2016 after attending the Professional Independent Ball Desert League Training Camp.

Sanders has coached both baseball and softball competitively ranging from 10u-18u. Most recently, he assisted the Pueblo Evolution Athletics and Azteca softball competitive travel teams. Dwight has also umpired for the last 8 years, and continues to do so during the summer.

“We are very excited to have Coach Dwight Sanders as our new softball coach,” said OJC Athletic Director Gary Addington. “He brings an extensive amount of playing experience to the softball diamond which has translated into some good things on the softball field since he took over the program on February 21.  The team came off a very successful road trip last weekend in Odessa, Texas under his direction.  He knows and understands the philosophy of OJC Athletics and what is expected both on and off the field.  We have a very strong softball tradition here at Otero Junior College and I know he will do a great job in continuing this tradition”.
