Monarco named OJC Golf coach

The Otero Junior College Golf team began their spring season under first-year Head Coach Scott Monarco. Born and raised in La Junta, CO, Scotty has been around golf since he was a toddler. Scotty played two years of golf at Otero and won multiple individual tournaments while earning his Associate of Arts degree.

“I want to thank President Rizzuto and Athletic Director Addington for giving me this opportunity to do something I am very passionate about. I am excited to start this process and to continue the success that this program has had in the past,” said Monarco.

The Rattler Golf Team is made up of 5 women and 6 men. Coming off of competing in the National Tournament in the spring of 2016, the women’s golf team leads in Region IX. The men currently hold second in Region IX behind Central Wyoming College.

Athletic Director Gary Addington is optimistic for the future of the team. “Joe McClain did an outstanding job of developing the Golf program and turning it into a Region IX powerhouse. I think Scotty Monarco will continue the tradition. Scotty knows and understands Otero Junior College and our philosophy as he is a former student athlete of OJC. I know Scotty will do a great job,” said Addington.

The OJC Golf Team will be hosting their season opening tournament Thursday, March 23 at 1 p.m. and Friday, March 24 at 9 a.m. at La Junta Municipal Golf Course.
