Rattler Rodeo Fall Season Wrap Up

The 2017 Otero Junior College fall rodeo season came to a close this past weekend in Riverton, Wyo. at the Central Wyoming College rodeo. The Rattlers had a strong fall season.

Leading the Rattlers was Mason Mardesich (Gridley, Calif.). He placed at all four rodeos in the fall, winning both the Lamar Community College Rodeo and the Sheridan College Rodeo in the saddle bronc riding. Mardesich also took second at Central Wyoming College Rodeo and fourth at Chadron State College Rodeo. He is currently sitting first in the Central Rocky Mountain Regional saddle bronc riding standings with 515 points.

Kody Aldrich (Westcliffe) had a promising fall season, winning the first regional rodeo in Chardon, Neb. in the bull riding. He is currently sixth in the regional standings.

Austin Crist (Rocky Ford) had a solid fall season in the Team Roping, placing at Central Wyoming College.

Tyler Beebe (Bayfield) placed in the top ten at Sheridan College Rodeo in the Saddle Bronc Riding putting him 12th in the regional standings.

“Mason Mardesich has set the bar for the rest of the Otero Rodeo team. He has shown an amazing work ethic and has driven the team to a higher standard. I am proud of all his hard work and the hard work of every team member. It’s exciting to see all their efforts paying off. I know that this team will continue their success and qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in June,” said Coach Linsay Sumpter.

The women’s team had some bumps this fall semester, though Canadian freshman Kelsey Drinkall (British Columbia) had a top ten finish in the goat tying at the Chadron State College Rodeo.

After four rodeos, OJC Rodeo is ranked in the top ten in the men’s team standings. OJC was represented in every championship round this fall.
