Spring Semester Registration is Underway at OJC

Registration for Spring Semester at Otero Junior College is currently underway and will continue through Jan. 12, 2018. Spring classes will begin the week of Jan. 15, 2018.

New students can call or visit the OJC Student Services Center anytime between now and Jan. 12, 2018 to meet with an academic advisor, complete any placement testing they may need to do, and meet with financial aid representatives. Returning students are encouraged to schedule a meeting with their academic advisor before registering for Spring Semester.

To provide some fun during the enrollment process, OJC will be hosting Rock & Enroll, and enrollment event that will be held Nov. 13-15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily in the Learning Commons of Wheeler Library. Evening hours will be available on Nov. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Advisors from Student Services, TRiO and faculty will be available all three days to help advise students into their Spring Semester classes. During Rock & Enroll students can enjoy food, register for drawings and have some fun.

Jeff Paolucci, vice president of Student Services, OJC provided some advice to new and returning students.

“Current students should have received a letter from the Student Services office recently telling them who their faculty advisor is. It is important for the student to make a connection with that advisor prior to registering for Spring Semester classes. We recommend that returning students register early to ensure they receive the classes needed for their degree programs,” said Paolucci.

For those who did not attend Fall Semester at OJC, Paolucci outlines the ease with which new students can begin classes in the spring and get started with their degree or certificate plan.

“We encourage anyone who would like to learn more about the college and what we have to offer to call us or stop by our office. Once students contact us, we will schedule an appointment with an academic or faculty advisor. Advisors can provide career counseling and assist students with class placement and scheduling. We have an excellent variety of courses that should fit any schedule, from day and evening classes to hybrid online courses,” explained Paolucci.

Financial Aid information is also available at the Student Services Center. “Financial aid is still available for Spring Semester,” said Angela Moore, financial aid director at OJC. “About 80 percent of the students who currently attend OJC receive some type of financial assistance, so students should not let financial hardships prevent them from attending college. I encourage students to contact me so that I can help facilitate the financial aid process,” she said.

Otero Junior College offers two guarantee transfer degrees; the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees; each are guaranteed to transfer on to a university in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. The college also offers numerous Associate of Applied Science degrees and Career and Technical Education certificates that prepare students to enter the workforce with a specific skill and certification.

Spring Semester begins the week of Jan. 15, 2018. To accommodate students registering for Spring Semester, the OJC Student Services Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
