OJC New Year’s Eve Ag Gala will kick off 2018

The Otero Junior College Ag Program and Foundation is ready to “Kick off the New Year” with the 6th Annual OJC Foundation New Year’s Eve Ag Gala, to be held on Dec. 31 at Otero Junior College Student Center Ballroom. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and celebrating the New Year will continue until 1:00 a.m.

According to Brooke Matthew, lead instructor for the OJC Ag Program, a beef brisket dinner will be served with an available cash bar and $10 beer boots. The evening will include a live country/western band, The Barnburners, a silent and live auction will be happening throughout the evening, in addition to numerous door prizes.

The goal of the Ag Gala is to raise money for agriculture scholarships. “It is also our goal to continue to educate students about our agricultural roots and give them the best advantage to succeed later in life to pass down to their next generations,” said Matthew

“Every year has led to a great success not only in the Agriculture classroom but for students who are seeking to keep agriculture thriving. The sponsorships and attendance we have seen each year for this event is appreciated beyond words and every recipient of each year’s scholarship award winners are grateful that they can continue to pursue their dreams,” explained Matthew. Matthew said that the 2016 Ag Gala brought in just over $10,000 allowing the Ag program to award ten scholarships to well-deserved individuals which was a record amount of scholarships ever given.

For this year’s event, there are three different levels of sponsorships available, each including a table for eight guests and a bottle of champagne. The Platinum sponsorship ($1,000 and up) also includes a bottle of red wine, door prize tickets, and eight beer boots. Each Platinum sponsor will have a 2017 Ag Premier Scholar named to represent their sponsorship. The Gold Sponsors ($500 to $999) will also receive door prize tickets. Silver sponsors are ($350-$499).

New in 2017 is a half table sponsorship seating four guests for $150. Couple tickets are available for $60 and a single ticket for $35.

Matthew explained that the preferred attire for the evening is cowboy casual. “Do not forget to give your horse a break or the tractor a rest and come put your boots up for an evening of celebrating the New Year and our agricultural roots,” she stated.
