Ana Cadenas is E.E. Bruegel Memorial Scholarship Recipient
 

Ana Cadenas, a 2017 graduate of Las Animas High School, is the scholarship recipient of the 2017-2018 E.E. Bruegel Memorial Scholarship. Cadenas was chosen on the basis of letters of recommendation, achievements, and community involvement.

Cadenas is currently a freshman at Otero Junior College where she is enrolled in the nursing program. She plans to continue on with her education to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing and eventually work in hospital emergency rooms.

In high school Cadenas was a part of FBLA, National Honors Society, Square Dancing, True Blue, was a Yearbook editor, and participated in FCA. Her high school achievements include the Principals Honor Roll, and Academic Excellence.

E.E. Bruegel was a former principal of Bent County High School. Mr. Bruegel was an unusually kind and gentle man who cared about, supported, and encouraged the students and staff of BCHS. He was known for his positivity and fairness and had excellent rapport with everyone. This scholarship is funded by 1955 graduates of Las Animas High School (formally BCHS), who want to make an investment in students from their former school.

Ann Bruegel Richards, La Junta, made a strong financial contribution in the first three years to help get the scholarship fund started. Judy Gholson Tigner, Rawlins Wyo.; Karen Hickey, Denver; Beverly Hulse Quarles of Roy, Utah; Prowers S. (Buck), Judy Hudnall, Chino, Calif., and Nancy Billings Gerlock have all contributed to the scholarship fund.

The deadline for the 2018-2019 E.E. Bruegel Scholarship will be April 2, 2018.
