OJC Donates to the Court Appointed Special Advocates

On Friday Dec. 15 OJC held its annual all staff Christmas party. Each year during December, employees of Otero Junior College embrace the spirit of giving by pooling their resources in support of a silent auction, taking place during the Christmas party.

This year $595 was raised, which will be given to the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). The goal of CASA is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so every abused or neglected child in the United States can be safe, have a permanent home and an opportunity to thrive. CASA serves the area counties of Bent, Crowley, and Otero.

Kim Juul, OJC testing coordinator, said several of the OJC employees donated to the auction. There was a wide variety of items donated for the auction. Some of the items that were auctioned off included a children’s book written by an OJC employee, baked goods including a German chocolate cake, and a handmade silver necklace.

“This has been a great experience and I am so humbled by everyone’s generosity. The people at OJC opened their hearts and wallets to ensure that the children of our area will not be neglected,” said Juul.

“We hope CASA will find our donation helpful this Christmas season,” Juul said. For more information about donating to CASA, contact Kim Juul at 719-384-6948.
