Register for Spring Dance Classes at OJC

The Otero Junior College Dance Program will be offering their spring semester of classes, beginning the week of Jan. 15. Registration will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10 in the OJC Humanities Center, room 117, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Prices vary depending on classes.

OJC dance director, Jennifer Jackson stated, “Children as young as two years old can start developing coordination, stamina, and strength in our classes. The classes for ages 2 and up include creative movement, ballet, tap, jazz, pointé, and acrobatics. We welcome parents and potential students to stop by our studio and observe a class any time.”

Jackson explained that all students will participate in the OJC Dane Program spring production featuring music from Broadway.

“Our top priority is safety and technique. All of this is done while maintaining a healthy body, healthy self-image, building strength, friendships, confidence, and most importantly, having fun,” Jackson said.

The OJC Dance Program was founded by Darlene Blackford in 1981. The program started out as an after school dance program, offering classes in beginning ballet, and has grown to include classes in all levels of ballet, pointe, jazz, tap and children's movement classes for Pre-School aged children. According to Jackson the program is committed to providing quality dance instruction and has become a stepping stone for students in the Arkansas Valley wishing to pursue dance in college and beyond.
