Spring Semester at OJC to begin on Jan. 15

The spring semester at Otero Junior College will begin on Jan. 15. Anyone who is interested in enrolling in classes are encouraged to stop by the OJC Student Services Center and register. Students can start fulfilling classes in many of the degrees or programs at OJC this semester. Three programs with spring start dates at OJC include the Medical Laboratory Technician Program, the Law Enforcement Program, and the Nursing Aid Program.

The Medical Laboratory Technician program is designed for the student to graduate with an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degree in two years. Three semesters are spent at the OJC campus and two semesters are partially spent in clinical rotations at an affiliated clinical facility. Medical Laboratory Technicians perform routine medical laboratory procedures and tests. Medical Laboratory Technicians apply preset strategies to record and analyze data which provide physicians with valuable information for the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

The OJC Law Enforcement Training Academy is an intensive 15-week, 40-semester-hour training course. The Academy is staffed by veteran certified peace officers and career professionals who teach the latest in law enforcement techniques using state-of-the-art equipment. The course-work offered by the Academy is continually upgraded each semester and is designed to prepare students to take the Colorado POST examination to become Colorado Certified Peace Officers.

Otero Junior College, in cooperation with area hospitals, offers a one semester nursing assistant program to prepare students to work in nursing assistant positions. Successful completion of the Nursing Assistant courses entitles the graduate to apply to the Colorado Board of Nursing to take the certification exam for Certified Nurse Aide.

Enrollment for many programs are currently open at OJC for the spring semester. For more information, or to register for classes offered at OJC contact the OJC Student Services Center at 719-384-6831.
