OJC’s Men’s Basketball Team Accepted into the National Tournament

Otero Junior College is proud to announce that the Men’s Basketball team has been accepted into the National Tournament, after receiving an at-large bid. The Men’s Basketball team is currently 29-4, winning the south sub-region, hosting the Region IX tournament, and now securing the number 19 seed in the 2018 NJCAA Division 1 National Tournament.

The 71 NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship will take place at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas, March 19-24, 2018. The NJCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship is a 24-team single-elimination tournament consisting of 16 District Champions and 8 at-large selections. The top 8 seeds will receive a first round bye and will play the winners of the first 8 games. There will be a third place game on Saturday preceding the championship game. All games will be played at the Hutchinson Sports Arena, Hutchinson, Kansas. The Sports Arena is considered a neutral court.

Student Life will be hosting a good luck sendoff event this Friday, March 16, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Learning Commons. Sodexo will be serving lunch for all those on campus and in the community who plan on joining the event. There will be banners, decoration, and music in celebration of our Men’s Basketball team accomplishments.

Athletic coaches, club sponsors, faculty, and all OJC staff are encouraged to promote the event to all students on campus. As the opportunity to compete in a National Tournament is a special opportunity, Jordan Bishop, student life coordinator, encourages the entire Otero family to come to the event in support of our Men’s Basketball team.

Brendan O’Connor, head men’s basketball coach thanks all those who I came and cheered on our team this past weekend. “The Pit was rocking. I appreciate all the continued support from OJC and the community. The team is looking forward to the National Tournament and encourages you to follow their progress throughout the tournament.” O’Connor said.
