Coach Mathew Paeth Won Two National Championships
 

Otero Junior College is proud to announce that Head Wrestling Coach, Mathew Paeth, is the 2018 US Open Masters Greco-Roman National Championships champion and the 2018 US Masters Men’s Freestyle National Championships champion.

The U.S. Masters Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals, for adult athletes 25-years-old and above, was held in Las Vegas, Nev., on April 24-25. The event was held at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. The event offers competitions in men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle, Greco Roman, folkstyle, and Grappling.

The competitors win based on the best of three matches. Paeth wrestled in the 130 kilo weight class. In the Greco-Roman competition Paeth lost his first match 5-2. He won the second 10-4 and the third 5-2. In the freestyle competition Paeth won two-straight matches 10-0 by technical fall.

According to Paeth he is going to try-out for the 2020 Olympic team in Tokyo Japan. He excited for the opportunity to try-out and is working hard to earn himself a place on the Olympic team. Those that know Paeth say he has the ability and what it takes to be a member of the Olympic team in 2020.

“Coach Paeth has been a real asset to our athletic department and OJC’s wrestling program. He is a real inspiration for his team by getting out on the mat and doing what he coaches. We were proud that Coach Paeth was able to represent OJC at the U.S. Masters Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals.” Garry Addington, OJC athletic director said.
