Women’s Basketball Coach at OJC Moves On

Earlier this month Sta’Nisha Hersey, Otero Junior College’s head women’s basketball coach, announced her resignation after one year with the team. Hersey has accepted a position as an assistant coach for Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. and will be transitioning to her new role after the OJC summer basketball camps are complete.

“I really enjoyed my timer here, I am sad to leave, but I am excited for the new opportunity.” Hersey said. “I was presented with at a chance to coach at a Division One school, and felt was too good to pass up. The people in La Junta really made it feel like home, so choosing to leave was not an easy decision. I want to thank the OJC campus and community for welcoming me and my family with open arms.”

Hersey said she will greatly miss her team, but she is confident that she and Assistant Coach Jordan Bishop have recruited a great team, and will go on to have a winning season and be great ambassadors for the program.

“We wish Coach Hersey all the best in her new position, and have full faith she will accomplish great things,” said Gary Addington, OJC athletic director. “We are beginning a search for our next head coach immediately, and I am confident we will find an outstanding replacement. As always, our administration is dedicated to finding the best person to serve our students as head coach, and carry on our reputation of excellence on the court and in the classroom,” he said.
