Otero’s Cole Dewey moving on to Garden City Community College

Otero Junior College Athletic Director, Chris Carrillo, announced late this week that Head Men’s Basketball Coach Cole Dewey will not be returning to lead the Rattlers in the upcoming 2020-2021 season. Dewey has officially accepted the head coaching position at Garden City Community College (GCCC). He will be returning to GCCC after being there as an assistant coach at GCCC early in his career.

"We tried to keep Coach Dewey as long as possible here at Otero, but he has decided to move on, and I respect that," said Chris Carrillo OJC athletic director. "He's a really good coach and has an extremely bright future ahead of him.”

Dewey had an exceptional year this past season compiling a 25-7 record and leading the Rattlers to a 15-0 start going into Christmas break. Under Dewey the Rattlers also earned a 4th place national ranking which is one the highest national rankings in school history. During his time as Otero Junior College’s head coach the Rattlers compiled a 45-17 record in the past two seasons.

“Myself, along with the entire staff here at Otero want to wish Coach Dewey the best with this new chapter in his career. We are extremely grateful for all that he has accomplished for our basketball program and our institution as a whole. Garden City CC is lucky to have him, and we are looking forward to following his future success,” said Carrillo.
