2018 Fall Season
The Otero Junior College Golf team is ready for another season with a total of nine players that will compete in tournaments. The team is led by coach Don Davis. Last season the team scored fourth in the Region IX competition.
Joshua Stig, a sophomore, from Australia competed in the spring tournaments last season. According to Davis, Stig showed a lot of potential. He won medalist honors at the La Junta tournament. Anthony Gigccotto, a sophomore from Australia, is expected to be a serious golfer. Coach Davis explained the Gigccotto has a lot to offer the team and should be a great competitor this season with good results. Jackson Moore, a sophomore, from Universal City Texas, also plays a great game of golf according, to Davis and will only improve and build onto his existing skills this season.
Last season the team started with four players for the fall matches. A total of eight players are on the golf team. Four players are returning from last year’s team and the four new players are joining. “Throughout the season last year I saw constant improvement.” Davis said. “I hope with a few more players joining the team this season the freshman will push the sophomores during practice and help with match results.”
Davis explained that that he feels the team can complete for top honors at the individual level. “Last season we were fourth out of six teams. I believe with the talent that we have, there is a chance we will be a serious contender in Region IX this year.”
