Meet Your 2018 - 2019 Rattlers Wrestling Team
The Otero Junior College Wrestling Team is ready for the upcoming season. The first wrestling meet will be on Oct. 26 at 6:00 p.m. in the McDivittt Center Gym.
Matthew Paeth, second-year head coach, explained that a major consideration when recruiting players for this team was to recruit student-athletes first. “We were not only recruiting to find talented wrestlers, but to also to find wresters who have a strong GPA,” Paeth said. “This group of individuals is incredibly smart and will make great gains in the classroom and on the mat. After utilizing last season as a rebuilding year, we have strong team put together. We as a coaching staff have high expectations for the team. We have some of the best talent we could find from across the country and are excited to compete this season.”
There is a total of five returning players. Two of the notable returning players include: Jarrod Smith a sophomore from, Lake Villa, IL. He is 184 lbs. and a 2017 NJCAA National Qualifier. Dessmund Prospero a freshman, from Brighton, is 133 lbs.
Paeth explained that their goal for this season is simple and holds true to the. “We plan to produce college graduates and national champions. We are focused on winning the Rocky Mountain District and making a top five finish at the NJCAA National Tournament.”
